Dr. Jyoti Srivastava, MS, DDS

Dr. Jyoti Srivastava, MS, DDS, explains why choosing a prosthodontist for complex dental work is crucial. She emphasizes that as a prosthodontist she focuses on a smile that is both beautiful and built for long-term health.

Choosing a dentist for a complex restoration—whether it's a crown, bridge, or dental implants—can feel overwhelming. You’ve probably seen many options advertised, each promising a perfect result. But when your goal is a smile that is not just beautiful, but also functional and built to last, the most important decision you can make is to choose a specialist.

My name is Dr. Jyoti Srivastava, and as a prosthodontist, my career has been dedicated to the art and science of restoring and replacing teeth. I believe that true dental excellence goes far beyond simple aesthetics. It’s about ensuring your teeth function harmoniously, your bite is stable, and your restorations are designed for long-term health and durability. It’s also about understanding that your mouth is the gateway to your body. Oral health isn’t separate from your overall well-being; it's a vital part of it.

This is the philosophy that guided me to pursue advanced training in prosthodontics, and I want to share with you why that specialized expertise matters when it comes to the health and future of your smile.

What is a Prosthodontist?

A prosthodontist is a dental specialist who has completed an additional three years of advanced education beyond dental school. This extensive training focuses on the diagnosis, treatment planning, and restoration of the mouth, including complex procedures like:

  • Dental Implants: Planning and restoring teeth on implants.
  • Crowns and Bridges: Designing and placing custom-made crowns and bridges.
  • Complete and Partial Dentures: Creating comfortable, well-fitting, and lifelike dentures.
  • Cosmetic Dentistry: Enhancing smiles through veneers and other aesthetic treatments.
  • Reconstruction: Full-mouth reconstruction for patients with complex dental needs.

The difference lies in the specialization. A general dentist is a skilled professional trained in a broad range of dental care, from cleanings to fillings. A prosthodontist, on the other hand, has dedicated years to mastering the most complex restorative procedures. We are often considered the "architects of the smile," with a deep understanding of facial anatomy, bite mechanics, and the materials needed to create a lasting restoration.

The Path to a Prosthodontist

My passion for dental excellence began with a strong foundation in science. After earning a master’s degree in biophysics, I combined that scientific rigor with a love for design and earned my Doctor of Dental Surgery (DDS) degree. This unique background allows me to merge cutting-edge dental technology with an artistic eye to restore oral health and create stunning smiles.

My commitment to the field extends beyond my practice. As a former associate professor at NYU College of Dentistry, I have played a vital role in training the next generation of prosthodontists. This experience reinforces my own dedication to continuous learning and ensures I remain at the forefront of both aesthetic and functional dentistry. I continue to lecture and teach on these topics in academic settings on a regular basis.

I am also an active participant in pioneering advancements that shape the future of dental care. My patients know me for my meticulous attention to detail and calming presence because I am dedicated to crafting personalized treatment plans that prioritize patient comfort and trust. My holistic approach to dental care ensures that each patient feels valued and understood, fostering long-term relationships built on confidence and respect.

What My Expertise Means to You

I didn’t pursue this rigorous specialty just to make smiles look beautiful. I did it because I believe a healthy mouth is the foundation of a healthy body. My commitment is fundamentally about your long-term health.

  • It means focusing on your overall well-being. The health of your gums and teeth is directly linked to your systemic health—chronic inflammation in your mouth can affect your entire body. My work is not simply cosmetic; it's about creating lasting restorations that eliminate potential health issues and support your total wellness.
  • It means a precise, custom-tailored plan. Every smile is unique. My training allows me to meticulously plan your treatment from start to finish, considering not just the tooth but also the surrounding tissues, your bite, and overall facial harmony to ensure a predictable outcome that protects your health.
  • It means a partnership in your health. My mission is to give you a smile that is both healthy and beautiful. I am committed to staying at the forefront of dental science and technology to ensure you receive the highest level of care available.
